How "one per month" copy reviews work (exclusively for students of Copy School)

Get the most out of copy reviews

You can! As long as it’s for a page you’ve written. We’ll provide a Loom video with our feedback.

If after your first review you find that this service is not a good fit for you, you can request a refund.

However, because this is a service conducted by professional copywriters and taking real time, after you submit a second item for review, you are no longer eligible for a refund of any kind.

We recommend that you take training for the asset you’re writing – like take 10x Emails if you want to send us an email to review.

However, if you’d like to try a “before and after,” where you send us an email you wrote… get our notes… and then revise it, that’s okay too.

Keep in mind that everything you need to become an outstanding copywriter is inside Copy School. So we will often include in our reviews links to Copy School lessons you should watch that will help you improve the copy you’ve submitted.

On average, we dedicate 10 minutes to each review. So the question really is this: How much can we review well in 10 minutes?

The answer: about 250 words.

Try to keep it to 250 words. So that could be:

  • The top section of a sales page
  • The “Introducing” section of a sales page
  • The closing section of a sales page
  • A home page
  • A pricing page
  • An About page
  • A Tour page
  • An outline for a sales webinar
  • A plan for a multi-part email sequence
  • An email
  • A completed 10x Page Plan
  • The questions for a messaging research survey
  • Copy + images for 3 to 5 Facebook ads

If you’re sending multiple ads, make sure they’re all on the same subject. That is, they should target the same audience and drive to the same page.

If you’re sending 2-3 very short emails, make sure they’re in a sequence, not randomly pulled emails.

We want to give you the most helpful feedback possible. So the better we can use our time in your review, the happier you will be.

The more we know about whom you’re targeting and why they’d want it, the better.

However. These copy reviews are not detailed audits. What we’re doing is looking at your copy objectively as trained conversion copywriters — is your copy good, does it hook me, where does it lose me, how’s the tone, etc? So although it can help us to know more of the story behind the copy, we don’t need that for these reviews.

Our goal is to review copy as it comes in. However, sometimes things will get busy. In those times, we will aim to get our feedback to you within 3 business days.

Keep in mind that, if you share a Google doc with us, Google will notify you when we’ve added a comment. So you can actually pop into the doc while we’re in there and watch us review your work. If you want to nerd out like that.

If you send us a shared Google doc, we will turn on “Suggested edits” and make proposed edits directly to your doc. You can then accept or reject those edits.

We’ll also add comments where we want to express recommended direction. For example, if we identify that your headline lacks specificity (and seems to need it), we will leave a comment on your headline helping you understand the need for specificity.

We will not rewrite your copy. We will not proofread your copy.

In some cases, however, we may make light edits, using “suggestions,” to your copy – such as when one word would easily be swapped out for another.

No. Copy reviews exist to help you grow in confidence by getting 1:1 feedback directly on your work.

Just like your teacher in school wouldn’t write, rewrite or edit your essay for you, we won’t do that on your copy.

Rather, we’ll leave you super-useful feedback that will help YOU write significantly better copy.

No – we don’t presume to know what editorial or brand style you have in place, so we won’t comment on elements like spelling or punctuation.

Change the Share settings in your doc following the instructions you’ll see during the copy submission process. Be sure to invite our team to have Editing access. We’ll make suggested edits, but we need to have Editing access as part of our process.

No, this is for students only. By submitting your copy, you warrant that you wrote the original draft as a student in Copy School. Students who submit other people’s copy will be politely removed from this service, without refund. Please respect the rules.

A Copyhackers copywriter will dedicate approx 10 mins to reviewing and marking up your doc, using track / suggested changes and comments. We have found that this is more than enough time to give specific, pointed feedback on a copy doc.

Either one member of the Copyhackers copywriting team OR one member of our very small group of trusted freelancers. Basically there are about 6 of us at this time, and we all 1) practice conversion copywriting, 2) know Copy School inside-out and 3) teach inside Copy School. So you’re getting feedback from actual practicing copywriters who also teach.

Here’s the thing: Most people who ask us this question are assuming that a group of unpaid freelancers in some random Facebook group are doing the reviews. But that’s not the case here. The copywriters reviewing your work are proven, practicing copywriters who either work for Copyhackers directly or teach for us. So we’re talking PRO feedback.

Our copywriters sign binding NDAs. You submit your copy to us behind a secure gate that is password protected (i.e., when signed into Copy School). We manage all exchanges in a secure system that is password protected. And the software in which you write – like Google docs and Airstory – is also built with top security.

Nope! Most students and businesses work in Google docs, so that’s what we’re used to seeing.

However, you can send us a link to anything you’ve written online, as long as we can access it online. For example:

  • An Invision file
  • A Balsamiq file
  • A Notion sheet
  • A Typeform
  • A Google sheet
  • Google slides

We cannot accept password protected files. This will delay matters significantly.

Please do not attempt to send us uploads as we will not download anything sent to us. If you’ve written in Microsoft Word, please use Microsoft online tools to convert your file to a web-based format OR make it into a Google doc.
