And guess what – THEY ALL WORK.

Sometimes. 

But it’s that freaking INCONSISTENCY of results that kills so many copy careers waaaaay early.

Think about it:

If you could make a career out of swiping from John Caples’s classic “They laughed when I say down at the piano”… you wouldn’t be here and neither would I. 

So what gives?

MODEL > SHORTCUTS 

The MODEL matters more than the SHORTCUTS.

Conversion copywriting – i.e., what I teach and do – is a model. Is THE model.

Only problem is:

**Models don’t move copywriting course units.**

Basically:

People like things fast. 

They want to shorten the gap between Acquiring X Solution and Seeing Y Results.

If I told you “I made one million dollars in my agency’s first year and $3.5M in my training business that same year… and HERE’S THE EXACT BLUEPRINT SO YOU CAN DO THE SAME THING BEFORE DINNERTIME TONIGHT”… you would throw your money at me. 

You’d be completely hopeless if you didn’t take out a freaking loan to get that blueprint. 

But maaaaaaaaan oh man would you be disappointed.

Some people will never read this page. And I don’t just mean they won’t read line by line, like you’re doing. I mean they won’t even end up on this page or a page like it. 

They don’t have a curiosity burning in their gut. 

They want all the results you and I want…

But…

…they can’t be bothered.

…they insist there’s a much shorter path.

…hell they even think “if she can do it, there’s definitely a bro out there who can teach me to do it better and faster from the driver’s seat of a lambo”…

(to which i’d say ‘that’s sad’ but what i really mean is f*ck those assholes – i’m writing this while looking out over a vineyard and lake in my award-winning home in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, brooooo)

The thing of it is:

You can be the copywriter who writes a long-ass sales page that keeps people reading and reading and reading.

But let’s start with something smaller, quicker.

Let’s start with: what if you could just start asking the right questions?

Like, what if you could hop on Zoom with a new lead and look at an email they want to optimize, like this one:

“What persuasion framework did you use to write this?”

And the lead stares blankly at you. 

“Okay, what formula did you use to craft this headline?”

More blankness. 

You start to feel awkward. (This will happen. It’s stunning how little people actually understand about copywriting. That’s not their fault! But you’ll get used to pushing past the awkwardness to ask more questions.)

“And your offer – I’m sorry but I don’t see an offer here. It’s also unclear who your one reader is. But perhaps you wrote this using voice-of-customer data? Did you… by chance… use VOC?” 

Nothing. But. Blank. Stares. 

Some prospective clients or leads will dislike you for knowing so much about something they thought was pure guesswork. 

But the other leads…

The actual businesses with money to spend because they have money to make

They will turn from blank stare to small smile to big grin. Because they’ll know, when you ask questions like that, when you show you’ve got not only a model but THE model for conversion copywriting under your belt, that they’ve found the one.
