Conversion Copywriter (3 open positions)

Our agency (CH Agency) is growing faster than we can keep up with, so we’re aggressively recruiting three copywriters to join our team full-time in Edmonton, Alberta.

We are a boutique conversion copywriting agency specializing in B2B SaaS copywriting for websites and emails, but also with interesting clients in consumer spaces, like sports, entertainment and ecommerce.

Your job will be largely copywriting (85% of the role) but also stretch assignments (15%), ranging from social media management for Copy Hackers to webinar facilitation for our team’s content efforts. Day-to-day activities include:

  • Ad hoc training, from the copy chief, on copy techniques and practices you should use
  • Creating surveys to find voice-of-customer data
  • Conducting review and forum mining to find messages
  • Synthesizing voice-of-customer data into messaging recommendations
  • Workshopping copy with the other writer, contractors and the copy chief
  • Creating spit-drafts, outlines or SFDs for review and approval
  • Turning second drafts into wireframes
  • Editing copy for clarity, voice, specificity, believability and just plain awesomeness
  • Presenting copy-in-wires to the team
  • Helping out on client calls, where necessary
  • Updating the project manager on your progress

Great conversion copywriters lean heavily on the science of copywriting – including research, frameworks and formulas – but also bring an artfulness to their copy. That’s what makes Apple’s copy so compelling. And that’s what our team strives for.

To succeed in this position, you should:

  • Have a degree or diploma in English, Marketing or Journalism
  • Be deadline driven (this is not optional in any way, shape or form)
  • Be tech savvy – there’s no romance ’round these parts in owning a typewriter
  • Have the skin of a rhino and a willingness to kill your darlings
  • Be comfortable with online marketing, including social media, email marketing, mobile, SEO and CRO
  • Be willing to learn wireframing software, like Photoshop, Sketch or Balsamiq
  • Understand information design, including messaging hierarchies
  • Love research
  • Craft good arguments using rhetorical devices, persuasive techniques and an always-growing understanding of human decision-making
  • Write very well
  • Be hungry to learn, to do and to measure what you’ve learned and done
  • Work well in small teams, with clients and on your own
  • Work fast but smart
  • Be kinda cool but not too cool

Successful candidates will be trained directly by Joanna Wiebe, our founder and an influencer in digital marketing. You do not need any experience writing copy. But you should know what copy is. And you should believe that great copy moves the ideal prospect to say “yes” to a strong offer. Aaand you should really be a quick study because digital moves fast and our clients want to stay ahead, naturally.

This is an in-house position with the possibility of remote / flexible work down the road. We take Monday mornings and Friday afternoons off. Lunch is provided Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits are provided as a monthly allowance.

As part of the application process, we’d like to get a sense for your instincts and insights when it comes to writing digital copy. With that in mind, please use UseLoom to create a 5-minute (not longer, not shorter – give or take 30 seconds) video-and-audio review of the home page for https://www.gitprime.com/. Please email your cover letter, resume and the UseLoom link for your recording to joanna@copyhackers.com.

Position will close when filled.

Editor and Content Strategist

We’re growing faster than we can keep up with, so we’re aggressively recruiting a blog editor / content creator / content strategist to join our team full-time in Edmonton, Alberta.

Your day to day will include:

  • Planning content
  • Repurposing existing content
  • Updating existing content
  • Writing and editing blog content
  • Promoting content
  • Incorporating rounds of editorial feedback from the senior editor (Joanna Wiebe)
  • Following and adding to the editorial calendar

You’ve gotta be wicked deadline- and detail-oriented. You need to dig writing and teaching (because killer blog posts are, effectively, teaching). You’ve gotta seriously dig CRO, SEO and conversion copywriting. You need to get a strong handle on the Copy Hackers voice… while still bringing your own voice to the game. And you need to work well in our small team of you, the other editor and Joanna.

This is an in-house position with the possibility of remote / flexible work down the road. We take Monday mornings and Friday afternoons off. Lunch is provided Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits are provided as a monthly allowance.

As part of the application process, we’d like to get a sense for your instincts and insights when it comes to writing content. With that in mind, please send us an outline for the next blog post you’d write for the Copy Hackers blog. Please email your cover letter, resume and outline to joanna@copyhackers.com.
