Conversion Copywriter (senior or specialist, 3 open positions)

Our agency (CH Agency) is growing faster than we can keep up with, so we’re aggressively recruiting three copywriters to join our team full-time in Edmonton, Alberta.

We are a boutique conversion copywriting agency specializing in B2B SaaS copywriting for websites and emails, but also with interesting clients in consumer spaces, like sports, entertainment and ecommerce.

Your job will be largely copywriting (85% of the role) but also stretch assignments (15%), ranging from social media management for Copy Hackers to webinar facilitation for our team’s content efforts. Day-to-day activities include:

  • Ad hoc training, from the copy chief, on copy techniques and practices you should use
  • Creating surveys to find voice-of-customer data
  • Conducting review and forum mining to find messages
  • Synthesizing voice-of-customer data into messaging recommendations
  • Workshopping copy with the other writer, contractors and the copy chief
  • Creating spit-drafts, outlines or SFDs for review and approval
  • Turning second drafts into wireframes
  • Editing copy for clarity, voice, specificity, believability and just plain awesomeness
  • Presenting copy-in-wires to the team
  • Helping out on client calls, where necessary
  • Updating the project manager on your progress

Great conversion copywriters lean heavily on the science of copywriting – including research, frameworks and formulas – but also bring an artfulness to their copy. That’s what makes Apple’s copy so compelling. And that’s what our team strives for.

To succeed in this position, you should:

  • Have a degree or diploma in English, Marketing or Journalism
  • Be deadline driven (this is not optional in any way, shape or form)
  • Be tech savvy – there’s no romance ’round these parts in owning a typewriter
  • Have the skin of a rhino and a willingness to kill your darlings
  • Be comfortable with online marketing, including social media, email marketing, mobile, SEO and CRO
  • Be willing to learn wireframing software, like Photoshop, Sketch or Balsamiq
  • Understand information design, including messaging hierarchies
  • Love research
  • Craft good arguments using rhetorical devices, persuasive techniques and an always-growing understanding of human decision-making
  • Write very well
  • Be hungry to learn, to do and to measure what you’ve learned and done
  • Work well in small teams, with clients and on your own
  • Work fast but smart
  • Be kinda cool but not too cool

This is a Canada-based remote work position. We take Monday mornings and Friday afternoons off, working 9-hour days Wed, Thurs and Fri. So it’s a 35-hr week – but divided up smarter.

Salary is commensurate with experience. Three weeks’ vacation. All that jazz.

As part of the application process, we’d like to get a sense for your instincts and insights when it comes to writing digital copy. With that in mind, please use UseLoom to create a 5-minute (not longer, not shorter – give or take 30 seconds) video-and-audio review of the home page for https://www.gitprime.com/. Please email your cover letter, resume and the UseLoom link for your recording to joanna@copyhackers.com.

Online Content Lead

Love the science behind clickbait… but loathe actual clickbait? Want to elevate the click-game by intriguing digital marketers with a social post that actually drives to a really good page, post or video that closes the curiosity loop (instead of irritating people, like clickbait does)? Still love reading and promoting good ol’ fashioned blogs… but down to supplement written content with fab videos and more?

Basically: Ready to put your content love to great use?

Then you should join the Copyhackers team as our new Online Content Lead. This is a role for a mid-level online content creator, marketer or strategist who gets that social media, online content and community- or tribe-building all comes back to this: offering badass value to your audience. You’ll work with a core team of online marketers focused on delivering incredible value on repeat.

Sound intriguing? Cool – now how’s this sound? It’s your average workweek:

  • Iterating on our online content strategy
  • Working with our video guru to get a new video up on YouTube
  • Working with our Online Product Marketing Managers to develop and/or optimize content for lead-generation and middle of funnel
  • Iterating on CTAs, descriptions, thumbnails for past YouTube videos
  • Developing ideas for Facebook lives and pitching them to the team
  • Turning existing content into Instagram-ready content
  • Filling our Buffer with tweets and other social posts, and optimizing them
  • Planning upcoming Tutorial Tuesdays, including scheduling guests
  • Very lightly editing tutorials and private training session recordings, and uploading them to the appropriate online space
  • Managing external partner relationships and pitching ebooks, webinars, etc to partners (in keeping with strategies created by our Online Product Marketing Managers)
  • Shortlisting articles pitched by external guest bloggers
  • Coordinating team members and external vendors to get assets created for social and copyhackers.com content
  • Measuring what’s working and what’s not, and making new plans to focus on creating and promoting content that works

To achieve Total Badass Status in this role, you will bring:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Great writing skills
  • Love for teams and collaboration… with a healthy dose of “i got this – just leave me to it and i’ll show you something cool in a week”
  • Love for online content – you spend an unhealthy amount of time on YouTube, for example
  • A tendency toward seeking, creating and appreciating friendly, smart, sometimes witty creative
  • A big ol’ interest in copywriting, copywriters, startups and conversion rate optimization
  • A hunger to meet content where it’s at but take it to another level
  • Friendliness 🙂
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a content creation, management or strategist role
  • A bachelor’s degree

By applying for this role, you’re saying yes to joining a fast-growing online content and training business dedicated to helping a world of digital marketers and copywriters get really, really, really good at writing copy that gets the yes.
